WGXC On AIR at the CCC!
The collaboration between the Castkill Community Center and WGXC 90.7-FM finally came to fruition on September 7th with the first live broadcast from the WGXC’s Catskill Studio housed on the first floor of the Community Center. For the last 2 months WGXC’s 4-6pm Wednesday Afternoon Show has been broadcast live from the Community Center with a wide range of local business owners, politicians, and residents adding their voices to the airwaves in addition to information about local news, weather and community events. There’s even a microphone set up on the street for passerby’s to express their opinions live on the air!
WGXC plans to continue broadcasting their Wednesday Afternoon Show from the Community Center and plans to have more shows broadcasting from Catskill in the near future. The Catskill Studio team has grown to include 7 dedicated volunteers with plenty of room for new faces. If you are interested in becoming involved in WGXC’s Catskill Studio feel free to stop by on Wednesday afternoons between 3-6pm or take part in one of WGXC’s upcoming Catskill trainings:
*Town Recorder Workshop: Saturday Nov. 12, Noon @ The Catskill Community Center
-Learn to use a field recorder to capture public events, meetings, interviews and more.
*Oral History Workshop With Suzanne Snider: Saturday December 3rd, 2-5PM @ The Catskill Community Center
-This workshop will cover the fundamentals of oral history methods and practice, with a focus on how oral history and radio can make use of one another. No experience necessary. RSVP at workshops@wgxc.org
WGXC is also set up to broadcast live community events happening at the Community Center. The upcoming Candidates Forum, co-hosted by WGXC and The Greene County League of Women Voters on Saturday Nov. 5, 1-3PM at the Catskill Community Center and broadcast live on WGXC 90.7-FM, is an example of the station’s commitment to helping facilitate open community dialogues.
In other exciting news, WGXC just got word that it has received a grant from the Greene County Youth Bureau to run an 8 week Youth Radio Production Training. The program will run from 6-7pm on Mondays starting Nov. 7th and will take place at WGXC’s Catskill Studio. Participants will learn how to use audio recorders and editing software and produce a weekly radio show to air on WGXC 90.7-FM on Thursdays from 3:30-4:00 starting December 1st.
