Parenting Classes

Common Sense Parenting

Greene County Mental Health is happy to offer the Common Sense Parenting® program developed by Girls and Boys Town and supported by the New York State Office of Mental Health.

Parenting means balancing nurturing, love and affection with the discipline all children need to learn and thrive. Common Sense Parenting® teaches how discipline can be more teaching than punishment, more positive than negative for both you and your child … and effective!  The class is appropriate for parents of children 4 to 17 years old.

Using instruction, discussion, exercises and video examples, classes cover:

* Preventing and Correcting Problem Behavior

* Strengthening Positive Behavior and Giving Messages That Children Understand

* Using Consequences That Work

* Calming Emotionally Intense Situations

* Teaching Children Skills and Self-Control

* Improving Your Relationship with Your Child
